CAIR-NY Condemns ICE Arrest of Brad Lander

(NEW YORK, NY - 6/17/2025) — The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, condemns ICE’s violent arrest of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander and calls for his immediate release.

Lander was arrested by masked Federal agents while observing immigration hearings involving individuals marked for potential deportation at 26 Federal Plaza. Lander, while escorting the individual whose case had just been dismissed, requested the agent's badge and warrant; then was subject to violent arrest by ICE agents.

His current whereabout is unknown.

CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher, Esq. stated:

“This is just the most recent example of dangerous escalation by the Trump administration and ICE. People like Comptroller Brad Lander who are simply trying to support immigrants and ensure that ICE operates within the bounds of the law should not fear arrest and detention. ICE, or any arm of law enforcement, does not have the authority to act with such disregard for the law.”

CAIR-NY's mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR-NY es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
