CAIR-NY Applauds New York Lawmakers Decision to Preserve Media Access to Police Radio Communications
(NEW YORK, NY, 6/12/25) –The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded New York lawmakers’ decision to preserve media access to police radio communications.

On June 6th, New York state legislators approved a proposal granting journalists and emergency service organizations access to encrypted police radio communications. The proposal will now be sent to Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, where she will review the bill.

“Passing this bill ensures accountability among law enforcement. This is critical as we see the incidence of police brutality rising throughout New York. We celebrate this victory supporting press freedom and transparency for New Yorkers.”
