CAIR-NY Condemns CUNY Queen’s College Event Hosting Israeli Soldier During Gaza Genocide
(NEW YORK, NY, 3/4/2024) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a CUNY Queens College event hosting an Israeli soldier on campus while their far-right government is carrying out genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Queens College today hosted an Israeli soldier in an event presented by The Queens College Israeli Student Association.
In a statement, CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher said:
“As Israel commits clear acts of ethnic cleansing, genocide and apartheid against Palestinians, CUNY Queens College’s act of welcoming an Israeli soldier shamefully infringes on the rights of its students to feel safe on campus.
“While tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians are being displaced, starved, and murdered, the University opens its doors to a lead actor in these atrocities. Hosting an event with the entity carrying out an active genocide shows to students, staff, alumni, and the general public that CUNY Queens College sides with the genocide, absolutely dismissing the daily pain and trauma felt by its Palestinian students as they mourn their loss.
“We stand in solidarity with all those standing for humanity against the continued atrocities against our brothers and sisters.”
She added that CAIR-NY and the Muslim American community stand in solidarity with all those challenging racial supremacy, religious bigotry, xenophobia, and all other forms of hatred.
