CAIR-NY Welcomes NYC Council’s Disciplinary Action Against Queens Council Member for Islamophobic Social Media Posts
(NEW YORK, NY, 3/4/2026) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the NYC Council’s decision to pursue disciplinary action against Queens Council Member Vickie Paladino for her repeated Islamophobic posts on social media. Council Member Paladino, a Queens Republican, will face formal disciplinary proceedings in the coming weeks.
In now-deleted social media posts, Paladino has called for the “expulsion of Muslims from western nations” and referred to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani praying with Muslim sanitation workers as “part of Islamic conquest.”

In a statement, CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher, Esq., said:
“We applaud the action taken against Council Member Vickie Paladino on Monday. Her egregious, bigoted remarks targeting Muslim-Americans on social media are deeply troubling. No council member, who has representative power and a responsibility to serve all New Yorkers, should be able to spread such Islamophobic rhetoric without just accountability.”
