CAIR-NY Welcomes Hate Crime Charges for Alleged Antisemitic Threats Targeting Albany County Employee

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed the filing of hate crime charges against a man accused of making antisemitic threats toward an Albany County employee.

According to media reports, the charges stem from an alleged incident in which the defendant reportedly made threatening, antisemitic statements directed at the employee, who wears a yarmulke, or Jewish skull cap.

In a statement, Afaf Nasher, Esq., Executive Director of CAIR-NY, said:

“We welcome the decision to pursue hate crime charges in this disturbing case. Alleged antisemitic threats, like all forms of bias-motivated intimidation, must be taken seriously and addressed through the justice system. No one should fear harassment or violence because of their identity, faith or background.”

She added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
