CAIR-NY Condemns Alleged Hate Crime Attack on Brooklyn Church

(NEW YORK, NY 2/7/2024) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned an alleged hate crime vandalism against a Brooklyn church.  

On January 27th, a group of four people approached St. Columba Church in Marine Park around 2:45 a.m. According to police, the group allegedly broke into a side door on Kimball Street. They reportedly smashed a metal crucifix and stained-glass window before fleeing the scene.

“We condemn this act of vandalism and encourage law enforcement to continue pursuing the matter as a hate crime,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “We stand in solidarity against acts of violence and destruction, especially on religious houses that are supposed to be sanctuaries for our communities. 

She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, anti-Jewish hate, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
