(NEW YORK, NY, 05/05/2023) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today calls for criminal charges against the man responsible for the tragic death of Jordan Neely.

Jordan Neely is recognizable to many as the Michael Jackson impersonator who danced in the Time Square stations. On Monday afternoon, while riding the F train, Neely was killed by a fellow passenger who put him in a fatal chokehold for 15 minutes.  The City medical examiner determined the death to be a homicide, stating Neely's death resulted from compression of the neck. The identity of the alleged killer is unknown, and the NYPD has not charged the suspect with murder.

In a statement, CAIR-NY's Executive Director Afaf Nasher, Esq. said:

"CAIR-NY calls for justice for Mr. Neely and his loved ones, who are mourning his death. The suspect, who has yet to be charged with any criminal offense, allegedly placed the unarmed man in a chokehold for fifteen minutes. The medical examiner has substantiated the fact that this is a homicide. A failure to prosecute the perpetrator amounts to a lack of accountability and a miscarriage of justice that cannot be ignored."

She added, "CAIR-NY also extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jordan Neely during this difficult time."

She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, anti-Jewish hate, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
