(NEW YORK, NY, 7/13/2022)—The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed the arrest of three individuals who allegedly placed racist pamphlets and stickers containing Nazi swastikas in two churches and on several other properties in Hornell, N.Y.

The Hornell Police Department, which worked closely with the Rochester division of the FBI on the investigation, executed a search warrant on a property connected to the trio and found sufficient evidence to charge them with 115 counts of 1st-degree Aggravated Harassment.

Afaf Nasher, Executive Director of CAIR-NY, said in a statement:

“We are relieved that these individuals are no longer able to spread their vile, Nazi-inspired, racist propaganda. We condemn their actions and applaud the Hornell Police Department and the FBI for their joint efforts in locating and capturing these alleged criminals and urge them to pursue hate crime charges. God Almighty states in the Holy Qur’an: ‘Oh humankind, O people! We created you from a male and a female, and made you races and tribes, that you may know one another.’ (Qur’an, 49:13). This is what we believe as Muslims and what we value as Americans. We will not allow racists to divide and conquer our country.”

She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging racial supremacy, religious bigotry, xenophobia, and all other forms of hatred.

CAIR-NY has condemned several other disturbing hate incidents in recent weeks:
