CAIR-NY: NYC Civil Rights Groups, Elected Officials to Hold Press Conference Ahead of NYPD Surveillance Reform Hearing

(NEW YORK, NY, 12/17/19) – On Wednesday, December 18, a coalition of community groups, civil rights organizations and elected officials will hold a press conference ahead of a hearing on the POST Act, an NYPD surveillance reform bill. 

The POST Act would require the NYPD to provide a privacy and use policy for every surveillance system it deploys in New York City. The press conference will take place on the New York City Hall steps at 1:00 PM, immediately before a Public Safety Committee hearing on the legislation.

The POST Act is co-sponsored by 30 of the 51 New York City Council members and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. The bill has also been endorsed by the City Council’s Progressive and Black, Latino/a, and Asian Caucuses, the New York Times Editorial Board, and a coalition of 70 civil rights and community-based organizations.
