(NEW YORK, NY, 10/9/19) — The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned anti-Semitic vandalism targeting a Westchester County Holocaust memorial the day before Yom Kippur.

It is unclear if authorities are investigating the vandalism at the Garden of Remembrance in White Plains as a bias-motivated incident.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher said:

“It is heartbreaking that our Jewish brothers and sisters continue to be the targets of vile anti-Semitic incidents, especially near Judaism’s holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur.  We hope the authorities will investigate this act of vandalism as a bias-motivated incident. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community against the religious bigotry directed at their faith.”

CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Jewish, Christian, Native American, African-American, and Sikh communities in New Mexico, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Alabama, Massachusetts, South Dakota, Ohio, Texas, and other states following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson, or bombings.
