  • December 1, 2015 – Islam Presentation at Advanced Math & Science IV High School. CAIR–NY Director of Opertaions Sadyia Khalique presented to students about Islam and Islamophobia
  • December 1, 2015 -Know Your Rights Workshop (FBI/NYPD) at Baruch College CAIR–NY Co-VP Hasssan Ahmad presented to the Baruch College Muslim Student Association about their rights when dealing with the FBI/NYPD.
  • December 4, 2015: Musim Center of New York Islamophobia Presentation. CAIR–NY President Afaf Nashar and CAIR–NY Co-VP Jahangir Kabir spoke at Muslim Center of New York to raise awareness about what Islamophobia is, how it is affecting the community and the steps we should to take to help fight it.   
  • December 7, 2015: CAIR-NY Calls for Hate Crime Probe of Attack on Muslim Store Owner. CAIR-NY called on the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the FBI to investigate as a possible hate crime an attack on a Muslim store owner. Sarker Haque, owner of Fatima Food Mart in Astoria, Queens, was attacked by a customer who entered his store reportedly asking if everything was free. He then attacked Haque multiple times allegedly saying, “I’ll kill Muslims.” He continued attacking him until another customer entered the store and called police.   • December 11, 2015: Speaker at Anti-Isamophobia Rally outside of a Trump Fundraising event.
  • December 14, 2015: Speaker at Majlis Ashura Interfaith Press Conference at City Hall. The press conference condemned the Islamophobic and un-American comments made by presidential candidates and thanked fellow Americans who spoke in support of American Values and their fellow Muslim Americans.
  • December 20, 2015: Islamophobia Presentation at MAS Staten Island. CAIR-NY President Afaf Nashar spoke at MAS Staten Island about what Islamophobia is, how it is affecting the community and the steps we should to take to help fight it.  
  • December 20, 2015 - Co-sponsor at Rally: Say No to Racist Trump & His Media Megaphone. CAIR-NY Treasurer Carl Jack spoke at rally where a coalition of student, Muslim, antiwar, immigrant and anti-racist groups held a demonstration to oppose the racism being promoted 24/7 by his campaign and the media.

November:

  • November 23, 2015: Press Release: CAIR-NY Calls for Hate Crime Probe of Threat to Muslim Sisters by ‘Postal Worker’. CAIR-NY called on the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the FBI to investigate as a possible hate crime an alleged threat to two Muslim women by a man wearing a U.S. Postal Service uniform and identifying himself as a postal worker. The two women (who are sisters) and an infant were allegedly approached Friday evening in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, by a postal worker who shouted obscenities and reportedly said, "I am going to burn your 'f**king' temple." He allegedly elbowed one of the women and spat in her face while she was waiting to cross the street. The man followed her across the street and called the other Muslim woman a “n**ger” and said, "I am not crazy, I am a postal worker." The two women walked into a corner store with the man still following them.   • November 30, 2015 - Majlis Know Your Rights Workshop (FBI/NYPD) at Masjid Omar Ben Abdel Aziz. CAIR-NY board member Hassan Ahmed presented about legal rights when dealing with the FBI and NYPD.

October:

  • October 2, 2015 - Countering Violent Extremism Info-Session at ICNA Mosque. CAIR’s Corey Saylor spoke about what CVE is, how CVE programs are targeting muslim communities, and whether or not muslims are being treated unfairly. The harmful effects of CVE programs to muslims, masjids, and youth were also discussed.  
  • October 17, 2015 - Anti-Bullying Presentation at Selden Islamic Center: CAIR-NY Director of Operations Sadyia Khalique addressed Selden Islamic Center Youth Group sisters about raising awareness about bullying and how to combat bullying and cyberbullying.
  • October 24, 2015 - Brooklyn Banquet “Strengthening Our Voices, Advancing Together.” Speakers such as Hassan Shibly, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, and Carolyn Walker-Diallo graced us with their presence and helped make this banquet as successful as it was. With almost 200 people in attendance we were grateful to see so many different organizations and people come to support one cause.  

August:

  • August 10, 2015 - Anti-Bullying Workshop at Arab American Association of NY (AAANY). CAIR-NY Director of Operations Sadyia Khalique addressed AAANY Youth about raising awareness about bullying and how to combat bullying and cyberbullying.
  • August 29, 2015: Know Your Rights (FBI/NYPD) at "Black Men Need Love & Multi Ethnic Unity Day" Event. CAIR Civil Rights Director Jenifer Wicks led a Know Your Rights training when dealing with the FBI/NYPD.

  • July 5, 2015 : Islamophobia & Media Presentation at Hudson Valley Islamic Community Center (HVICC). CAIR-NY Director of Operations Sadyia Khalique organized a mock TV Talk show with youth at HVICC where youth explored how Muslims are represented in the media.

  • July 15, 2015: Press Release: CAIR-NY Asks FBI to Join Probe of Hate Attack on Muslim Woman in New York - CAIR-NY called on the FBI to join the investigation of what the New York City Police Department (NYPD) says was a bias-motivated attack on a Muslim woman. Police said the 19-year-old woman was assaulted late Saturday by a man who yelled anti-Muslim insults at her, spit on her and fractured her jaw. June:

  • June 8, 2015 - Christian, Jewish and Muslim Teens to Address United Nations. CAIR-NY and Stony Point Center stood in solidarity with Christian, Jewish and Muslim teenagers to "UNITE for Harmony" as they addressed the United Nations to promote interfaith dialogue and cooperation and called for "Ending the Chains of Hate."
  • June 10, 2015: Anti-Bullying Workshop at Arab American Association of New York. CAIR-NY Director Sadyia Khalique spoke to muslim/non muslim teenagers of various ethnicities about the harmful effects of bullying. Students shared personal stories and learned valuable lessons from one another.  
  • June 18, 2015 - Anti-Bullying Workshop at Muslim Center Junior High School in Flushing Queens. CAIR-NY Director of Operations Sadyia Khalique addressed all students are Muslim Center High School about raising awareness about bullying and how to combat bullying and cyberbullying.

  • February 18, 2015: Candlelight Vigil for the Victims of the UNC Chapel Hill Shooting at Queens College: CAIR-NY joined Project Sunshine at CUNY Queens College, Queens College Muslim Students Association, Amnesty International at Queens College, and Students for Justice in Palestine for a candlelight vigil in memory of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu-Salha who were shot fatally.
